Cash offices starting to open but online service options remain key
23 May 2020
This week, revenue offices in Strand and Plumstead were the first to open. On Monday 25 May 2020 customer care offices in the Liberty Promenade Mall in Mitchells Plain and in the Table Bay Mall will open. Cash offices are opening in a phased manner across the city to adhere to the national COVID-19 regulations. The City however emphasises those customers who are able to perform their business online should continue to do so and stay at home to stay safe. Read more below:
The City has started with the staggered opening of its revenue/cash offices for municipal accounts, however the use of online services and the City’s e-Services is encouraged.
This allows customers who do not have web access and who are not making use of the municipal services being offered at retailers the opportunity to make municipal account payments, indigent applications, payment arrangements and rates rebate applications.
To ensure the safety of customers and staff, the City has taken all the necessary precautions, as guided by the Western Cape Government and National authorities.
The use of online and City e-Services is encouraged as to avoid having to travel unnecessarily as well as to enhance the safety of customers and staff. The opening of more revenue/cash offices across the city will be communicated to members of the public as soon as possible.
‘We do however encourage our customers to use online and City e-Services as far as possible to avoid unnecessary travel and contact with others to reduce the spread of the COVID-19,’ said the City’s Executive Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Finance, Alderman Ian Neilson.
The grace period for motor vehicle renewals still applies. Next month the City looks to opening the motor vehicle registration and licencing offices in a phased approach. The City will only be able to open motor vehicle licence offices when the nationally controlled traffic information system is operational again.
Lockdown-related grace periods apply to:
- driving licences applications and renewal
- learner’s licences
- temporary permits
- professional driving permits (PrDPs)
- roadworthy certificates
- the registering and licensing of a motor vehicle, as well as annual licence renewals
In addition, the validity period for the renewal of a motor trade number licence is extended for a further six months after the Level 5 or Level 4 lockdown has ended.
